Community service hours are available to fulfill court-ordered or scholastic requirements. Opportunities for required service hours include tasks such as cleaning, doing laundry, and general facility upkeep. Our volunteers who work with the animals go through a different program that requires ongoing training and commitment.
Court-ordered community service hours may not be completed through our cat or dog volunteer program. There are no exceptions.
So that more people are able to participate, we limit the number of required service hours a person can do each year. Those who are completing service for scholastic purposes are allowed up to eight (8) hours per semester, those completing court-ordered service are allowed up to 12 per calendar year. To perform required service hours alone you must be 14 years of age or older and be able to follow written instructions and work independently. Opportunities are available for children under the age of 14, however, a parent or guardian must be with them at all times and some of the work we need done is probably a little too strenuous for a young child.
There are no after-school shifts available; weekends and holidays fill up quickly so you should schedule these well in advance.
You must schedule required service hours ahead of time; no walk-ins or phone calls. Be sure to include whether the hours you need are for scholastic or court-ordered purposes and allow 48 hours for a response. Shifts are limited and fill up quickly.
