Join Pawsabilities

Pawsabilities is our program that gives community members with special needs an opportunity to participate in activities and volunteerism at the animal center. There are two options available: group classes and individual volunteering.  Our goal is to include everyone who wants to be a part of the WCAC community and help care for our pets.  Our hope is that these experiences are mutually beneficial.

Through the group classes, your organization or family can visit the center to learn about animals, meet the adoptable pets and do a service project that makes their stay at WCAC more enjoyable.  Classes are scheduled to last an hour and a half.

To volunteer with cats, you must be at least 14 years of age, 16 for dogs.  After getting signed up and scheduling their first visit, each future volunteer, also known as a "trainee", will work one-on-one with a Pawsabilities mentor who teaches and assists with the skills needed to interact safely with our pets.  Trainees are then able to socialize and play with cats or walk, groom and play with dogs.  Every volunteer session also includes time set aside for a snack break and reflection.
