Book Buddies

Book Buddies is a program that benefits both young readers and pets in our care by providing a non-judgmental space for children to practice their reading skills and our cats and dogs to receive comforting social interaction that makes them more adoptable. The accompanying adult and children of ages five to 12 years old attend a short class to learn about the details of the program and basic animal behavior and body language. After completing the class the new Book Buddy can read to cats residing in our free-roaming "catios" or by sitting outside of a selected dog's kennel.

There are different classes for cats and dogs, each focusing on the behaviors and body language of the particular species. Book buddies are welcome to read to both cats and dogs but must attend orientation for both species if they wish to do so.
